Container Flow at TPK Koja Could Reach 840 Thousand TEUs This Year
On December 21, 2011, it was officially announced that the total amount of loaded and unloaded 20 foot containers at the Koja Container Terminal, Jakarta, Indonesia had reached 800 thousand TEUs. Management expressed optimism that by the end of this year, it could reach about 840 thousand TEUs.
The General Manager of TPK Koja, Arif Isnawan, said that he is confident with this new estimate as previously, the target was only 780,000 TEUs. In 2010, TPK Koja succeeded in moving 760,000 TEUs.
According to Arif Isnawan, this is a marvelous achievement, considering that the discharge capacity of TPK Koja is only 680,000 TEUs.
"Nevertheless, by succeeding at various attempts to optimize operations, TPK Koja has successfully increased its capacity to around 840,000 TEUs," said Arif Isnawan, accompanied by Achmad Syaichu, TPK Koja's Marketing Manager.
"This achievement will surely gain us added trust from our customers who use TPK Koja. On the other hand, it also means we have to focus even more on what is important, and that is to boost our service performance at TPK Koja," he added.
This commitment to increasing the services and performance of TPK Koja is to be realized by acquiring additional investment for infrastructure facilities and superstructures, some of which has already been secured through an agreement with the owners of PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero) and PT. Hutchison Ports Indonesia. Plans for TPK Koja in 2012 include the development of a CY, adding new gate ways, and superstructure facilities, such a QCC, three RTG and eight Head Trucks, among others. Eventually, the capacity of TPK Koja will increase to 1,000,000 TEUs.
The value of investment which is needed for these developments at TPK Koja is about Rp. 328 billion.
"This commitment is really a pleasure for us as we attempt to boost service performance in anticipation of future economic growth and particularly more container shipments going through Tanjung Priok," said Arif Isnawan.
