Temas Line Invests in New Vessels

PT Pelayaran Tempuran Emas Tbk., also known as Temas Line, will soon be adding to its already sizable fleet. In 2008, Temas Line had 27 vessels in its fleet with a total capacity of 13,162 TEUs. In 2009, its fleet will increase to 34 with a total capacity of more than 22,000 TEUs. The eight new vessels, which were ordered in 2008, will all come from China. Today, Temas has received the first five with the other three to arrive shortly.

Temas Line, which focuses on serving domestic routes, is now prepared to take an even larger chunk of the market due to this added investment in new vessels. Meanwhile, the company’s management is focused on self improvement, specifically, in quality of service and customer relations.

"By investing in these vessels, which we have done very cost effectively, this company's performance will remain high well into future," said Harto Kusumo, the Director of Temas Line, after a general meeting of share holders on June 18, 2009. The company spent US$ 9.3 million on the new vessels, with 80% of the funding coming from bank loans.

The company's performance in 2008 soared with profits increasing sharply. In 2008, the company took in Rp.1.17 trillion compared to only Rp.835.3 billion in 2007 with net profits in 2008 reaching Rp.155.1 billion.

"This company was very happy with this achievement, especially because it was in the middle of a high fuel price time in 2008. The company's financial situation just gets better and better," said John WIsnu Alwi, the Finance Director for Temas.

The company's profit target for 2009 is between Rp.1 trillion and Rp. 1.2 trillion. Still, this has been a hard year for the company because of the impact of the global economic crisis and added competition, which have affected the company's performance. To handle this problem, the company has consolidated by adding a director to strengthen the management team. Besides that, the company also has added one independent commissary to help the company practice good corporate governance by striking a balance between management and supervision.
